COLLIE INDUSTRY ATTRACTION AND DEVELOPMENT FUND
554. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Minister for Regional Development:
I refer to the Collie future industry attraction and
development fund.
(1) What is the total amount that has been made available
under this fund since its inception?
(2) What is the balance of unallocated or uncommitted moneys
remaining in the fund?
(3) What projects have received
funding from the fund and to what value?
(4) What new
full-time, part-time and casual positions have been created within each project
funded in (3)?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the
question. I think the member is conflating two funds. There is the Collie
Futures fund, which is what the member asked about yesterday, and there is the
Collie industry attraction and development fund. I was a bit surprised to see
this because the member had withdrawn the question because he made that
confusion but he has resubmitted it in the same form. It is a separate fund—right.
It is not the Collie future industry; it is the Collie industry attraction and
development fund.
(1) The total
amount budgeted is $80.1 million, and $2 million of this has been allocated to
the Collie Futures small grant program, which is in addition to the $2 million
allocated from the Collie Futures industry development fund.
(2) To date, projects to the value of $40.9 million
have been committed under the Collie industry attraction and development fund, with a number of projects
seeking a total of $25.1 million currently under consideration.
(3)–(4) The
information is in tabular form. But I do ask, member: what is your problem with
this idea of us having a just transition—with
this idea of us going out and getting the most amazing new industries in
Collie? They are the most amazing new industries in Collie!
The PRESIDENT: Order! I know
it is ''have fun'' Thursday; however, we have very clear standing
orders about questions and answers.
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN: I have
the information in tabular form.
I seek leave to have the response
incorporated into Hansard.

Short
term roles include construction roles and consultants involved in feasibility
studies.
Job
creation figures will continue to vary based on the dynamic nature of
employment and as data is provided from proponents.
^
Through the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attraction management
process, job numbers are collated from all contractors utilised at the
completion of the project.
* In
addition to direct jobs, flow-on economic benefits in region are expected to be
realised through longer-term jobs created in the tourism sector as a result of
increased visitor numbers and increased visitor spend. In 2021 with the Collie
Visitor Centre recording a record number of nearly 27,000 visitors.
