Parliament: 41 Session: 1

BROCK BURSTON — POLICE PROSECUTION

503. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to the answer provided to question on notice 695, which revealed a cost to the state of $28 196.04 for the failed two-day prosecution of Brock Burston in the Kununurra Magistrates Court.

(1) What was the total cost of detectives from the Perth-based financial crimes squad travelling to Kununurra to investigate Mr Burston before charging him?

(2) Was any other expenditure directly incurred associated with the failed prosecution?

(3) If yes to (2), what were those items of expenditure, and how much were they?

Hon KYLE McGINN replied:

I answer on behalf of the minister representing the Minister for Police. I thank the member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.

The Western Australia Police Force advises —

(1) The amount was $3 320.

(2) No.

(3) Not applicable.
