1294. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer to recommendation 42 of the
Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody regarding information on
people passing through police cells.
(1) Has this recommendation been
implemented?
(2) If yes to
(1) —
(a) will the
minister please provide the most recent annual data available;
(b) where is this
information published; and
(c) how often is
it published?
(3) If no to (1) —
(a) why not; and
(b) will the minister commit to
implementing the recommendation?
(4) If yes to (3)(b), when?
(5) If no to (3)(b), why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Police.
The Western Australia Police Force
advises the following.
(1) Yes. Further,
since October 2019, the custody notification service has been implemented and
officers phone the service administered by the Aboriginal Legal Service when an
Aboriginal person is detained in a WA police facility.
(2) (a) The
number is 29 616 from 2 October 2019 to October 2020.
(b) Internally on the WA Police Force
business intelligence portal.
(c) Monthly.
(3)–(5) Not applicable.
