Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 474 asked in the Legislative Council on 11 August 2021 by Hon James Hayward

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

HOUSING FIRST HOMELESSNESS INITIATIVE

474. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Community Services:

I refer to the Housing First Homelessness Initiative.

(1) Can the minister please provide a breakdown of the $270 000 spent to 4 August 2021, and specifically how much was spent on administration, staffing and direct assistance for homeless people?

(2) How many people has the Housing First Homelessness Initiative helped to find accommodation for, resulting in those people no longer being homeless?

(3) Considering the lack of available social housing in the short to medium term, will the minister consider interim options for homeless people in Bunbury to provide a safe and protected space for rough sleeping?

Hon KYLE McGINN replied:

I thank the member for some notice of the question. I provide this answer on behalf of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Community Services. The following answer has been provided by the Minister for Community Services.

(1) The Department of Communities provides funding to organisations for the delivery of services. Funding provided to service providers is not broken down into administration, staffing and direct assistance.

(2) The contracted services continue to work with the identified cohort under the Housing First Homelessness Initiative. I commit to provide the Parliament with an update on results before November 2021.

(3) Communities is supportive of funded Housing First support services using temporary and transitional accommodation options, with wraparound supports to house clients to help them to get their lives back on track while longer term accommodation is being sourced.
