KIMBERLEY JUVENILE
JUSTICE STRATEGY
108. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the
Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to answer to question
without notice 20 asked on 11 February regarding the allocation of $300 000 for
three years to the juvenile justice strategy—found at page 367 of
volume 1 of budget paper No 2.
(1) Will the $300
000 allocated to the juvenile justice strategy in 2020–21 and 2021–22
continue to be used to engage the Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Cultural Centre?
(2) If no to (1), what will it be
used for?
(3) If yes to
(1), when does the minister expect to receive either recommendations, programs
or a framework for a whole-of-Kimberley approach to crime prevention and
diversion of young people?
(4) Will any of
these funds be used to research the viability of a juvenile justice facility
located in the Pilbara or the Kimberley?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The Kimberley
Aboriginal Law and Cultural Centre will continue to be engaged throughout the
process. The level of funding for 2020–21 and 2021–22 is
currently under consideration.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) The co-design process will
deliver a series of Kimberley-wide recommendations by December 2020.
(4) Options for a
juvenile justice facility in the Kimberley will be considered as part of the
co-design process.
