Question Directed to the: Parliamentary Secretary representing the Minister for Health
Minister responding: Hon R.H. Cook
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
I refer to the answers to question on notice No. 3906 (answered on 10 May 2016) and question on notice No. 4215 (answered on 7 September 2016), and I ask:
(a) did 1,208 of the 8,105 induced abortions in the calendar year 2015 use the RU486 drug;
(b) if no to (a), what is the number; and
(c) what was the total number of induced abortions in the calendar year 2016, and how many used the RU486 drug?
Answered on 12 September 2017
I am advised that:
(a)-(b) As at 7 September 2016, there were 1,208 of the 8,105 induced abortions in the calendar year 2015, which used the RU486 drug. As at 18 August 2017, the answer was 1,217 of 8,176 of 2015 abortions, which used the RU486 drug. This slight difference in reported values is due to the late notifications of abortions being received after 7 September 2016.
(c) The total number of induced abortions in the calendar year 2016 was 7,845, of which 1687 used the RU486 drug.
