SHARKS — HAZARD
MITIGATION — DRUM LINE TRIAL
99. Hon JIM CHOWN to the minister representing the Minister
for Fisheries:
I refer to the awarding of the
Shark-Management-Alert-in-Real-Time drum line trial to Fairfield Pty Ltd.
(1) Will the minister table a copy
of the contract; and, if not, why not?
(2) Will the minister table a copy
of the tender evaluation report; and, if not, why not?
(3) Did the
minister or any member of his staff have any contact with any personnel from
Fairfield Pty Ltd since the government announced its intention to conduct a trial
on 14 August 2018?
(4) If yes to
(3), will the minister table a list of the dates of the meetings and who was
present at the meetings?
Hon DARREN
WEST replied:
I thank the member for some notice
of the question. On behalf of the Minister for Regional Development
representing the Minister for Fisheries, I provide the following answer.
(1)–(2) Unlike
the failed shark cull policy implemented by the previous Liberal–National
government, the McGowan government is committed to conducting a nonlethal
Shark-Management-Alert-in-Real-Time drum line trial in an open and transparent
manner.
Several members interjected.
Hon Samantha Rowe: Say it
again; repeat it for them.
Hon DARREN WEST: Yes, that is
a good idea!
The PRESIDENT: Order! The
parliamentary secretary is providing a response on behalf of the minister.
Please listen to what he has to say.
Hon DARREN WEST: Thank you,
Madam President. I have lost my place, so I will start again.
(1)–(2) Unlike
the failed shark cull policy implemented by the previous Liberal–National
government, the McGowan government is committed to conducting a nonlethal SMART
drum line trial in an open and transparent manner. I commit to tabling both the
contract and the tender evaluation report as soon as practicable. Both
documents are being reviewed to ensure that there are no legal impediments to
their release. The documents will be provided to the honourable member once
this process is completed.
(3) No.
(4) Not
applicable.
