ROEBOURNE REGIONAL PRISON — AIR
CONDITIONING
935. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to media reports in April
2022 that the Department of Justice had commissioned for consideration a report
on ''requirements and indicative costs to install air-conditioning
across all cells'' at Roebourne Regional Prison.
(1) Has the
report been completed and could the minister please table a copy of the report?
(2) If no to (1),
why not?
(3) Does the WA government plan to install air
conditioning at Roebourne Regional Prison prior to this summer; and, if
so, what is the time line for installation?
(4) If no to (3),
why not?
Hon
MATTHEW SWINBOURN replied:
I thank the member for some notice
of the question. The following answer is based on information provided to me by
the Minister for Corrective Services.
(1) Yes, the
report has been completed. However, it is not proposed to release the report at
this stage as its disclosure could adversely impact any potential future
tendering process.
(2) Not
applicable.
(3) No time line
is currently available.
(4) Roebourne
Regional Prison continues to implement a number of effective controls to manage
heat risk. These include fans in every cell;
air conditioning in a number of areas including the recreation hall, prisoner
visits area and female activities area; shade structures in the main areas of
the prison; flexible routine to adjust to the Pilbara's heat
conditions; extra ice machines; and cold water bubblers.
