Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BARRABUP FOREST — LOGGING

833. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the Minister for Forestry:

I refer to the Minister for Environment's response to petition 24, which opposes logging in Nannup.

(1) Has the Forest Products Commission commenced rehabilitation of the old-growth forest areas in the Barrabup 03 coupe that were incorrectly cleared to construct forestry tracks?

(2) If no to (1), when will rehabilitation commence and what rehabilitation steps will be undertaken?

(3) If yes to (1), can the minister please advise of the rehabilitation steps undertaken and the dates they were commenced?

Hon DARREN WEST replied:

On behalf of the Minister for Regional Development representing the Minister for Forestry, I give the following information.

(1) No.

(2) The Forest Products Commission will commence rehabilitation within the next two months, depending on soil moisture conditions allowing access to the area. The Forest Products Commission will follow the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions' ''Landing and extraction track rehabilitation procedure'' in consultation with the department.

(3) Not applicable.
