Question Without Notice No. 322 asked in the Legislative Council on 9 May 2018 by Hon Charles Smith
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
322. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the minister representing the Minister for Police:
I refer to the minister's reply to question without notice 303, which I asked on Tuesday, 8 May—yesterday—in which she states —
The McGowan government is delivering its commitment to extra police officers for the meth border force, regional enforcement unit and additional 24-hour police stations.
I also refer to the WA Police Union eighty-first annual conference, at which the minister stated that the police budget had no allocation for additional police officers and no funds had been set aside for the meth border force.
(1) Can the minister advise which account is correct?
(2) What is the minister's understanding of what a 24-hour police station is?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.
(1)–(2) The member's assertion that I have stated that the police budget had no allocation for additional police officers is erroneous. I suggest that he check his sources. For the record, I note that 100 additional police officers are being provided for the meth border force.
