Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 951 asked in the Legislative Council on 16 September 2020 by Hon Nick Goiran

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

PERTH MINT — GOLDEN VALLEY ENTERPRISE

951. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing the Premier:

I refer to the London Bullion Market Association's incident review process conducted into Perth Mint and its erroneous identification of Golden Valley Enterprise as ''medium risk''.

(1) Has Golden Valley Enterprise now been re-identified as ''high risk'' by Perth Mint's management systems?

(2) If yes to (1), what impact has this had on Perth Mint's dealings with Golden Valley Enterprise?

(3) If no to (1), is Perth Mint still contracted to purchase gold from Golden Valley Enterprise?

(4) On what date did the corrective action plan commence at Perth Mint?

(5) Prior to the LBMA IRP, who was the third party auditor for Perth Mint and when did this third party auditor lose their LBMA-approved service provider status?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) Perth Mint has ceased all dealings with Golden Valley Enterprise and is no longer sourcing any materials from it.

(2)–(3) Not applicable.

(4) The LBMA notified the Perth Mint on 7 August 2020 of its 90-day correction plan. This is well underway.

(5) It was Bureau Veritas. Matters concerning the accreditation of the third party auditor with the LBMA are matters between it and the LBMA.
