Question Without Notice No. 471 asked in the Legislative Council on 14 May 2019 by Hon Robin Scott

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Answered on 14 May 2019

LAVERTON HOSPITAL

471. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the minister representing the Treasurer:

Thank you, Madam President.

The PRESIDENT: Thank you, Hon Robin Scott; I was very keen to give you the call, but I did not think you would hear me.

Hon ROBIN SCOTT: I refer to the budget announcement of $4 million in funding towards the cost of a new hospital in Laverton.

(1) Can the minister confirm that in 2017 the sum of $4 million was transferred from the Laverton community hub project to start a Laverton Hospital fund?

(2) What is the current balance of the Laverton Hospital fund?

(3) Is the sum of $4 million promised in the budget independent of money held in the Laverton Hospital fund?

(4) If the promised sum of $4 million is in fact the same money that was transferred from the Laverton community hub project to the Laverton Hospital fund, what plan does the government have to inject new money into the Laverton Hospital project?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the Treasurer.

(1) In the 2018–19 budget, $4 million from the Laverton community hub project was redirected to the royalties for regions regional investment initiative.

(2) Not applicable.

(3) In the 2019–20 budget, $4 million was transferred from the regional investment initiative to WA Health for the Laverton Hospital project.

(4) Further investment will be considered following the development of detailed planning for this project.
