Question Without Notice No. 766 asked in the Legislative Council on 2 November 2017 by Hon Jacqui Boydell

Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Answered on 2 November 2017

PUBLIC SECTOR — VOLUNTARY SEPARATIONS
      766. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the minister representing the Treasurer:
I refer to the government's plan to reduce the public service by 3 000 FTEs and the Under Treasurer's comments during the Standing Committee on Estimates and Financial Operations budget estimates hearings when he said —
the projected savings written into the budget are based on the 3 000 FTEs exiting the sector by the end of March next year.
(1) To date, how many redundancies have been achieved?
(2) Is the government on target to reach its goal?
(3) What are the total savings to date?
      (4) If no savings have been realised to date, when does the government expect the savings to be realised?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
      (1) Agencies are currently offering expressions of interest for voluntary separations to staff. Offers and acceptance are not expected to be finalised until the first quarter of calendar year 2018 in line with the 31 March 2018 deadline for the scheme.
(2) Yes, the government is on target to meet the number of separations.
(3) Not applicable.
      (4) The 2018–19 budget is expected to include information on the number of actual separations finalised by each agency.
