NORTH WEST INTERCONNECTED
SYSTEM
509. Hon PETER COLLIER to
the minister representing the Minister for Energy:
I
refer to the comments made by the Minister for Energy in the Legislative
Assembly on Tuesday, 14 May 2019 regarding the contract between Horizon Power
and TransAlta that ''this agreement was entered into by the last
government, particularly when it was not recommended to it by the process it
had established to choose a contract partner''.
(1) Who advised
the minister that this agreement was entered into by the last government,
particularly when it was not recommended to it by the process it had
established to choose a contract partner?
(2) On what date did the minister
receive this advice?
(3) Will the minister table this
advice; and, if not, why not?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the
Minister for Energy.
(1) In his 14 May
2019 answer to a parliamentary question, the minister made no reference to
TransAlta but to a high-cost, inflexible, long-term contract that is making it
very difficult to implement the north west interconnected system reforms. The
minister has written to Hon Mike Nahan, MLA to request access to the relevant
cabinet documents.
(2) On 16 April
2014, by way of a press release by Hon Mike Nahan, MLA, the then Minister for
Energy.
(3) Yes. I seek leave to
have the following information incorporated into Hansard.
Leave granted.
