Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 2046 asked in the Legislative Council on 2 April 2019 by Hon Alison Xamon

Question Directed to the: Minister for Environment representing the Minister for Corrective Services
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to the Office of the Inspector of Custodial Services November 2018 report Contact with Friends and Family While in Custody, and I ask:
(a) has the department now resolved issues associated with meeting legislative requirements for remand prisoners in Roebourne Regional Prison;
(b) if yes to (a), how often are social visits now offered in the prison; and
(c) if no to (a), why not?

Answered on 14 May 2019

(a) Yes. An updated Staffing Level Agreement (SLA) for Roebourne Regional Prison has recently been approved and this includes a dedicated Visits Officer position.

(b) The new position will allow for visits to be scheduled at Roebourne Regional Prison seven days a week.

(c) It is anticipated that recruiting to the position and rostering requirements for the new Staffing Level Agreement will be completed by the end of June 2019.
