Question Directed to the: Minister for Regional Development representing the Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade

Question

(1) I refer to the Burrup Strategic Industrial Area (SIA), and I ask:
(a) will the Minister provide a map of the current alphabetically coded industrial zones within the Burrup SIA; and
(b) if no to (a), why not?
(2) I refer to corporations that the Government has been in contact with in regards to the development of the Burrup SIA, and I ask, will the Minister provide a list of all corporations that the department has been in contact with regarding the land in the Burrup SIA that remains available for new industrial development, including:
(a) the name of potential proponents;
(b) the name of the potential project;
(c) when the proponent made first contact with the department; and
(d) any documents, emails or meeting minutes between the Minister and/or department employees and potential proponents?
(3) If the Minister cannot answer (2) for any reason, including commercial in confidence, has the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) been made aware of any and all negotiations and/or contact between organisations and the department with regard to the Burrup SIA?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
(5) I refer to the Burrup and Maitland Industrial Estates Agreement (BMIEA) and ask, precisely how much land in the Burrup Peninsula SIA remains available for new industrial development:
(a) if unknown, why;
(b) what is the closest estimate that the Minister can provide; and
(c) will the Minister provide a detailed map of this available land?

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation advises:

 

1.(a)     Yes. [Refer to tabled paper no ]. This map is publicly available on the LandCorp website.

   (b)     Not applicable.

 

2.(a-d)  No. Government regularly receives inquiries about strategic industrial land. Project proposals may be applicable to a range of sites, many inquiries are preliminary in nature and they are commercial in confidence.

 

3.     Yes, the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) is advised of interest in the Strategic Industrial Area, but until a company is in a position to disclose its interest, the Department is unable to disclose specific project details.

 

4.     Not applicable.

 

5.     Approximately 399ha of industrial land is available. 

(a)     Not applicable. 

(b)     Approximately 399ha.
