Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 164 asked in the Legislative Council on 27 March 2018 by Hon Tjorn Sibma

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

COLLIE MINE WORKERS MEMORIAL OLYMPIC POOL
      164. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation:
I refer to the McGowan government's commitment of $2 million towards a new 25-metre indoor pool and clubrooms at the Collie Mine Workers Memorial Olympic Pool.
(1) What is the current progress of this project and when is the pool likely to be constructed?
(2) What is the total cost of the project and who will fund the remainder of the cost of the construction?
      (3) What level of support has the government received from the Shire of Collie regarding the construction of this swimming pool?
      (4) What is the estimated annual operating cost of the proposed swimming pool and who will bear the cost?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) A financial assistance agreement will be finalised shortly. This is to complete a business case, which will identify a construction timetable and a life cycle cost plan.
      (3) The project for a 25-metre indoor pool in Collie has received great support from the Collie community and great advocacy from the Shire of Collie. The shire is keen to progress planning for the indoor pool as quickly as practicable.
      (4) This will be determined as part of the aforementioned business plan; however, as the owner–operator, the Shire of Collie would bear the cost.
