ROAD SAFETY COMMISSION
      78. Hon COL HOLT to the Leader of the House representing the Premier:
I ask this question on behalf of Hon Martin Aldridge, who is away on parliamentary business. I refer to recent comments by the Road Safety Commissioner that the commission would cease its tenure on 1 July 2017.
      (1) Has the Public Sector Commissioner made contact with the Road Safety Commissioner during the period between 11 March 2017 and today?
      (2) If yes to (1), can the Premier please provide the date or dates on which the contact was made and the reason for the contact?
      (3) Has the Premier or Minister for Road Safety personally made contact with the Road Safety Commissioner to clarify the future of the Road Safety Commission?
      (4) If yes to (3), can the Premier please provide the date or dates on which the contact was made and the reason for the contact?
      (5) How will the functions of the Road Safety Commission change following the machinery of government reforms on 1 July 2017?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
On behalf of the Leader of the House, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The Public Sector Commission advises as follows —
      (1) Yes, the Public Sector Commissioner and officers of the Public Sector Commission have had contact with the Road Safety Commissioner.
      (2) Contact was made to discuss matters of public administration and management, and the machinery of government changes affecting the Road Safety Commission on 5 April 2017, 28 April 2017, 1 May 2017, 2 May 2017, 3 May 2017, 4 May 2017, 5 May 2017, 6 May 2017, 8 May 2017, 9 May 2017, 11 May 2017 and 12 May 2017.
      (3) The Premier has not contacted the Road Safety Commissioner, and suggests that the honourable member ask the Minister for Road Safety if he wants to know about any contact she has had.
      (4) Not applicable.
      (5) The Road Safety Commission will cease to be a department in its own right. It will be amalgamated with Western Australia Police, which will support the functions and activities of the Road Safety Council.
