FOREST — LOGGING

Minister for Environment:
I refer to the announcement to end all native forest
forestry.
(1) Which scientific reports were referenced in the decision
to stop native forest logging?
(2) Will the
minister be happy to table any reports that informed the decision that WA's
native forestry industry was no longer sustainable?
(3) Does the minister consider an opinion survey to be a scientific
report?
(4) Will the
minister visit timber communities in the south west to meet face to face with
forestry workers and explain in detail the science behind the decision?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for
Environment.

The McGowan government recognises the overwhelming body of scientific evidence
on the realities and impacts of climate change. I refer the honourable member
to the following publicly available documents: the Bureau of Meteorology's
State of the climate 2020 report; the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change's 2019 Special report: Climate change and land; and the
IPCC's 2021 Sixth assessment report.

(4) I ask that this question be referred to the Minister for
Forestry.
