EMISSIONS — PREMIER'S COMMENTS

representing the Premier:
I refer to the Premier's
comments last week declaring, ''Gas produces less than half the
emissions of coal''. Will the Premier please table the information that
supports this claim?

ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
That
gas emits 50 to 60 per cent less carbon dioxide when combusted in a gas power
plant compared with emissions from a comparably aged coal plant is an
internationally accepted principle.
