Question Without Notice No. 1156 asked in the Legislative Council on 16 October 2019 by Hon Tim Clifford

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

GAS-FIRED POWER PLANTS — EMISSIONS — PREMIER'S COMMENTS

1156. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the Leader of the House representing the Premier:

I refer to the Premier's comments last week declaring, ''Gas produces less than half the emissions of coal''. Will the Premier please table the information that supports this claim?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

That gas emits 50 to 60 per cent less carbon dioxide when combusted in a gas power plant compared with emissions from a comparably aged coal plant is an internationally accepted principle.
