CONTAINER FREIGHT SUBSIDY
525. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the container freight
subsidy on page 521 of volume 2 of budget paper No 2.
(1) Will the
minister explain why there is only $1.169 million in 2021–22 and no
funding in 2022–23 for the container freight subsidy?
(2) Will the
minister provide a list of the businesses that have received the subsidy and
the amount of the subsidy received by each business for each of the following years
—
(a) 2015–16;
(b) 2016–17;
and
(c) 2017–18;
and 2018–19 year to date?
(3) Has the
department undertaken any assessment of capacity constraints regarding
container freight by rail to Fremantle port?
(4) If yes to
(3), what are the constraints?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the Leader of the
Opposition for some notice of the question.
(1) A competitive
market process is underway to determine the future operator of the North Quay
Rail Terminal. When this process has concluded, the future funding need will be
determined.
(2) The number of customers
receiving the subsidy —
(a) in 2015–16,
was 30;
(b) in 2016–17,
was 31; and
(c) in 2017–18,
was 34; and in the 2018–19 year to date, was 37.
I note the member asked for a list of
the businesses. It is not there; I will chase up with the minister to see
whether that is available.
(3)–(4) Supply
chain—road and rail—capacity constraints for the Fremantle
inner harbour are currently being assessed as part of the Westport project.
