Parliament: 40 Session: 1

FOREST PRODUCTS COMMISSION
      705. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the Minister for Forestry:
      (1) How many hectares of native forest were harvested by the Forest Products Commission in the financial year ending 30 June 2017?
      (2) With reference to page 109 of the Forest Products Commission's 2016–17 annual report, will the minister please provide a breakdown of the FPC expenditure related to the policy and industry development segment?
      (3) In relation to (2), how much of this expenditure is related to native timber forest management and harvest?
      (4) Is the minister now able to table the independent assessment of employment in the forestry industry that was referred to in the answer to question without notice 417 asked on 17 August; and, if not, why not?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question. The information has been provided to me by the Minister for Forestry.
      (1) The area of harvesting is calculated and reported on a calendar year basis. For the year ending 31 December 2016, the area harvested was 7 810 hectares.
      (2) The policy and industry development segment is responsible for policy, industry development and corporate support to government. I table the attached document for a breakdown of the costs included in this segment.
[See paper 755.]
      (3) The expenditure does not relate to the Forest Products Commission's commercial native forest management and harvest, which is separately identified on page 109 of the Forest Products Commission's 2016–17 annual report.
(4) The report will be completed and published within the next two months.
