Question Without Notice No. 1150 asked in the Legislative Council on 20 November 2018 by Hon Colin Tincknell

Minister responding: Hon R. Saffioti
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Answered on

1150. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

Now that the Scarborough redevelopment is complete, has the minister's office or the Public Transport Authority given any thought to recommencing the bus services terminated by the previous government during the planning and redevelopment stages, specifically —

(1) (a) the 458 bus service from Whitfords to Scarborough along the sunset coast—this route also serviced the popular tourist destination of Hillarys Boat Harbour; and

(b) the 381 bus service from Fremantle to Karrinyup Bus Station—this route serviced the Leighton, Cottesloe, City Beach, Floreat and Scarborough beach precincts?

(2) If not, is the minister or the PTA considering any new or additional routes that will service those wishing to travel to Scarborough from the north or the south as the busy summer months approach?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) The minister has advised that route 458 and 381 services were withdrawn in 2015 and 2016 respectively due to poor performance. The route 458 service operated primarily on weekends and public holidays with the Scarborough to Northshore Drive, Hillarys, section of the route often carrying few or no passengers. The route 381 service operated over a 20-kilometre route for as few as one passenger on some trips.

(2) Passengers between Whitfords Station and Northshore Drive are able to access route 441, 442, 443, 460, 461 and 462 bus services. Scarborough Beach is currently serviced by routes 410, 421, 422 and 990, and Hillarys Boat Harbour is served by the route 423 service.
