Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Answered on 21 June 2017

ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER EDUCATION OFFICERS ANDEDUCATION ASSISTANTS — ROYALTIES FOR REGIONS
      248. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the Minister for Regional Development:
I refer to the government's announcement that it intends to increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education officers and education assistants.
(1) Will those regional education officers and assistants be funded through royalties for regions?
      (2) If yes, what other core government services does the government intend to fund through royalties for regions?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
      (1) The regional component of the increase in number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education officers will be funded through royalties for regions.
      (2) The member will be well aware that particularly over the last four years, an increasing number of the core activities, one might say, of Education and Health in particular were transferred into the royalties for regions budget. I make the interesting point that the entire staffing of the Department for Regional Development was in fact transferred into royalties for regions.
