Question Without Notice No. 1002 asked in the Legislative Council on 18 October 2018 by Hon Colin Tincknell

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Answered on 18 October 2018

SOUTHERN FORESTS IRRIGATION SCHEME

1002. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the Minister for Regional Development:

Does the minister acknowledge that development approval by the Shire of Manjimup should be required for the southern forests irrigation scheme, which embodies a 15-gigalitre dam at Record Brook with a 31-metre high earthen rock wall, inundating approximately 160 hectares of state forest at full supply level; a pipe-head dam on the Donnelly River to pump water to the dam on Record Brook, with an associated pumping station; 250 kilometres of pipe network on and under public and private land; associated pumping stations and power supply; and buffer tanks in the network of 60 megalitres and 45 megalitres?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question.

As with any project, the southern forests irrigation scheme will be subject to all relevant commonwealth, state and local government approvals. The state's project team and the project proponent, SF Irrigation Co-operative Ltd, continue to work closely with the Shire of Manjimup and its officers during the approvals process. At this stage of the project, it is not expected that any development approvals are required. If development approvals are required at a later stage, they will be obtained from the Shire of Manjimup.
