ROYALTIES FOR REGIONS — REGIONAL WORKERS INCENTIVE SCHEME
      84. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the Minister for Regional Development:
Madam President, on behalf of the National Party I congratulate you on your appointment and on the historic occasion that occurred in the house today.
(1) Can the minister confirm that the regional workers incentive scheme is currently being reviewed?
      (2) Can the minister commit to retaining this important allowance that helps attract and retain essential government staff?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question and I congratulate her on her appointment as the Leader of the National Party. It is still a small number of women, but it is good they are getting some positions.
(1)–(2) I gather there will be lots of answers along this vein over the coming months. We are committed to retaining incentives for regional workers. However, due to the state of the budget we are reviewing all programs. The budget papers will confirm the decisions that have been made to deliver economic stability to the regions and the state.
