Question

(1) For the period 2015-16 and 2016-17, how many schools were identified as having ceilings that require replacement or remediation?

(2) How many of those ceilings identified at (1) would be categorised as high risk?
(3) How many of those ceilings identified at (1) have had work completed, or are in the process of having work done?
(4) Are the ceilings identified related only to classrooms, or are there other areas within school grounds which require replacement/remediation and, if so, which areas?
(5) What funding was allocated to repair or replace ceilings in 2015-16 and 2016-17?
Answered on 14 September 2017

1. 284 schools in 2015-16; nine schools in 2016-17.

The data provided is at school level and not ceiling level. Therefore, the responses to questions 2 and 3 are provided as a number of schools, not as a number of ceilings.

2. 177 schools.

3. Remediation work at 262 schools is complete. Ceiling remediation is currently underway at nine schools.

4. The ceilings that have been remediated or replaced are not confined to classrooms and include offices, toilets, storerooms and wet areas.

5. $7 457 737 in 2015-16; $474 956 in 2016-17.
