Question

I refer to the Annual Report of the Chief Psychiatrist of Western Australia, tabled in the Legislative Council on 11 September 2018, and I ask:
(a) with regards to the 57,040 emergency department mental health presentations in 2017-18, what is the breakdown of presentations across each of the following hospitals:
(i) Armadale/Kelmscott District Memorial Hospital;
(ii) Fiona Stanley Hospital;
(iii) Joondalup Health Campus;
(iv) King Edward Memorial Hospital For Women;
(v) Perth Children's Hospital (and/or Princess Margaret Hospital);
(vi) Rockingham General Hospital;
(vii) Royal Perth Hospital;
(viii) Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital;
(ix) St John of God Midland Public Hospital;
(x) Peel Health Campus;
(xi) Albany Health Campus;
(xii) South West Health Campus;
(xiii) Broome Health Campus;
(xiv) Geraldton Health Campus; and
(xv) other hospitals;
(b) with regards to the number of presentations to each hospital emergency department answered in (a), what was the total number and overall percentage of patients admitted for mental health related issues for each of the following hospitals:
(i) Armadale/Kelmscott District Memorial Hospital;
(ii) Fiona Stanley Hospital;
(iii) Joondalup Health Campus;
(iv) King Edward Memorial Hospital For Women;
(v) Perth Children's Hospital (and/or Princess Margaret Hospital);
(vi) Rockingham General Hospital;
(vii) Royal Perth Hospital;
(viii) Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital;
(ix) St John of God Midland Public Hospital;
(x) Peel Health Campus;
(xi) Albany Health Campus;
(xii) South West Health Campus;
(xiii) Broome Health Campus;

(c) how many mental health beds did each of the following hospitals have at 1 July 2017 and 1 July 2018:

I am advised that:

(a) Table 1 represents the number of emergency department mental health attendances in 2017-18, for selected Western Australian hospitals. Note that the number of attendances at extraction date was 8 more than the figure in the Annual Report of the Chief Psychiatrist of Western Australia due to changes in the data that added to the number of records within scope.

1 The decrease in the number of available beds at the Joondalup Health Campus on 1 July 2018 was as a result of six inactive mental health beds due to infection control (2 beds) and maintenance (4 beds).

3 Bentley Adolescent Unit (BAU) moved to the Perth Children’s Hospital mid-June 2018
