Parliament: 40 Session: 1

DAMPIER ARCHIPELAGO AND BURRUP PENINSULA — WORLD HERITAGE LISTING

1276. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the Minister for Environment:

I refer to the minister's response to petition 74 about the protection of rock art in Murujuga.

(1) Will the minister provide the following details for the interagency task force and heritage committee that will assist in the preparation of the World Heritage listing nomination —

(a) when the task force and committee will be established;

(b) where and when it will meet; and

(c) how the members will be chosen?

(2) If not, why not?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) (a) The interagency task force and heritage committee are planned to be established in December 2018.

(b) It is proposed that the interagency committee will meet monthly commencing December 2018 and the heritage committee will meet quarterly commencing early 2019. These meetings will likely take place on country in Murujuga or in Perth.

(c) The composition of the committees has been developed upon the advice and recommendation of the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation and discussion with relevant state and commonwealth government agencies. The committee representatives will be approved by me prior to establishment.

(2) Not applicable.
