TREASURER — CHINA VISIT
778. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the minister representing the
Treasurer:
I refer to the media release dated
29 July 2019, titled, ''Treasurer to visit China in effort to drive
investment in Western Australia and create jobs''.
(1) Which organisations did the
Treasurer meet with?
(2) What notable individuals did
the Treasurer meet with?
(3) What was the
result of the meeting with the National Development and Reform Commission,
which I note got the state of Victoria to sign on to the belt and road
initiative?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The Treasurer
met with a number of organisations at investment seminars held in Hangzhou and
Shanghai. Separate meetings were held with the National Development and Reform
Commission, the Boao Forum for Asia, the China Education Association for
International Exchange and the Zhejiang provincial government.
(2) The Treasurer met with a significant
number of individuals from the above organisations.
(3) The result
was a commitment from both parties to maintain the vital economic relationship
between China and Western Australia, a relationship
on which the livelihoods of thousands of Western Australians depend, and
as reflected in the investment memorandum of understanding signed by the Western
Australian government and the National Development and Reform Commission in
2011.
