KALGOORLIE HEALTH CAMPUS —
GYNAECOLOGISTS
89. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer the minister to resourcing
of medical professional staff at Kalgoorlie Health Campus.
(1) How many gynaecologists
currently practise and reside in Kalgoorlie–Boulder?
(2) What is
the government doing, if anything, to recruit and encourage more gynaecologists
to practise in Kalgoorlie–Boulder so that patients do not need to
travel to Perth to access these critical services?
(3) Does the
government consider it acceptable for the population of Kalgoorlie–Boulder
to have waiting times of three to six months to see a gynaecologist?
Hon ALANNA
CLOHESY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) There are two
consultant obstetrician gynaecologists employed at Kalgoorlie Health Campus.
One is resident and the second is currently a locum consultant while
recruitment is being finalised.
(2) An additional
resident specialist has recently been recruited with an anticipated start in
March 2020.
(3) I have been
advised that this question contravenes standing order 105(1)(b), in that it
seeks an opinion. However, no outpatient
referrals are currently waiting for an appointment outside of their urgency
category.
