Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 801 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 August 2019 by Hon Colin Holt

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

SANDALWOOD HARVEST — LICENSING

801. Hon COLIN HOLT to the Minister for Environment:

I refer to the sandalwood regulations that required processors and dealers in sandalwood to be licensed to operate from 1 January 2019.

(1) Have all the licences been issued?

(2) Please list all licence holders.

(3) Are there any businesses currently operating without a licence; and, if so, which businesses are operating without a licence?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I note that this question was asked on 25 June 2019, so the information is current at that date. I did not realise it was in my folder, otherwise it might have been updated.

(1)–(3) The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is continuing to implement the new licensing regime for native sandalwood, which has been given effect under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and the Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2018. Licences were not previously required for dealing in or processing native sandalwood. DBCA is in the process of identifying relevant businesses so they can be informed of the new licensing arrangements.
