Question On Notice No. 1321 asked in the Legislative Council on 17 May 2018 by Hon Alison Xamon

Question Directed to the: Minister for Environment representing the Minister for Corrective Services
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to my question on notice No. 1056 regarding health screening for older prisoners, and I ask:
(a) are all older prisoners serving sentences of 12 months or longer offered bowel cancer screening;
(b) if no to (a), how does the department identify prisoners who are to be offered bowel cancer screening; and
(c) if no to (a), is every prisoner who asks for bowel cancer screening, provided screening?

Answered on 14 August 2018

The Department of Justice advises:

 (a)        Yes. Bowel cancer screening is available to any patient that requests it.

 (b)        All prisoners receive an annual health assessment, which may include screening considerations.

 (c)        Not applicable
