WATER CORPORATION —
LOCAL LABOUR
1529. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the minister representing the
Minister for Water:
Over a week ago, I attended the
Murchison country zone local governments' meeting. Representatives of
the Water Corporation at that meeting advised that their contracts for
construction specified that contractors must use local labour in at least six
per cent of all work.
(1) When was the
last time the Minister for Water requested a report from the Water Corporation
as to whether the local labour targets are being met?
(2) How does
the Water Corporation ensure that the main contractor is subcontracting at
least six per cent of total work to local businesses?
(3) When was the last time a head
contractor was punished for not meeting the local labour target?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
I have received information from the Minister for Water, but I think more is required,
so —
Hon Robin Scott: It was
submitted last Wednesday.
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN: I do
understand that, but I only saw it today. I will speak to the Minister for
Water and provide a response tomorrow.
