Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 953 asked in the Legislative Council on 17 September 2020 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

FORREST HIGHWAY — POINT-TO-POINT SPEED CAMERAS

953. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to the point-to-point speed cameras on Forrest Highway.

(1) Are the speed cameras currently operating; and, if not, why not?

(2) Over what dates have the cameras not been operational since March 2017?

(3) How many infringements have been issued as a result of the cameras' operation since March 2017?

(4) How many vehicles use this section of highway on a daily basis?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police. The Western Australia Police Force advises the following.

(1) Yes.

(2) The cameras were switched on to commence enforcement on 6 September 2017. Police temporarily took the cameras out of service/enforcement mode on 26 June 2018, with the point-to-point cameras returned to service on 29 November 2018.

(3)–(4) The WA Police Force advises that since 2017, 36 576 infringements have been issued, and on average there are between 6 000 and 10 000 vehicles travelling on this section of the highway in any 24-hour period.
