Minister responding: Hon S.F. McGurk
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Answered on 7 August 2019

CARNARVON FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICE

756. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Community Services:

I refer to the Carnarvon Family Support Service and the cessation of equal remuneration order supplementation funding after 2021.

(1) Can the minister confirm that state government funding to the tune of $54 834.24 will be cut from the budget of the Carnarvon Family Support Service from 2021–22?

(2) Does the minister accept that the cessation of this funding and resulting service cuts will have large and wide-reaching impacts on the community in Carnarvon?

(3) Will the minister agree to reinstate ongoing funding to the Carnarvon Family Support Service to allow it to continue the good work that it does in the community?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(3) The premise of the question is incorrect. The funding referred to is commonwealth funding and relates to the Social and Community Services Pay Equity Special Account Act 2012, which is due to cease on 30 June 2021. The intent of the funding is to supplement commonwealth government–funded contracts—this includes joint state and commonwealth contracts—to help meet any cost implications of the 2012 Fair Work Commission's equal remuneration order. The continuation of this funding is a matter for the commonwealth government to consider, and negotiations between the state and the commonwealth are progressing.
