Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 720 asked in the Legislative Council on 27 June 2019 by Hon Colin Tincknell

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

WEST AUSTRALIAN REGENERATIVE FARMERS NETWORK

720. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the Minister for Agriculture and Food:

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has stated that it will work with natural resource management groups and grower organisations to explore the science and best practice in regenerative agriculture.

(1) How much is the department investing in the regenerative agriculture network?

(2) What proportion of the funding is being allocated to the element of exploring the science and best practice in regenerative agriculture, and the element of focusing on premium food markets?

(3) Is the latter new funding for trade development or the reallocation of old spending?

(4) In light of the previous financial support for grower and production groups via the Grower Group Alliance, will the funding support from the department be supported in the current budget and into the future?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question.

(1) Through the 2018–19 large community stewardship NRM grants, $392 000 was provided to the Perth region NRM to support the West Australian Regenerative Farmers Network. I table a copy of the project summary, which was funded.

[See paper 2841.]

(2)–(3) The member asked a very similar question during the recent budget estimates. I have committed to providing this via supplementary information.

(4) The department continues to provide funding support for the Grower Group Alliance. Some grower groups have obtained funding through the NRM grants program.
