Question Without Notice No. 855 asked in the Legislative Council on 11 October 2022 by Hon Tjorn Sibma

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

EXECUTIVE GOVERNMENT — EMPLOYMENT RESTRICTIONS

855. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Public Sector Management:

Aside from the operation of the Integrity (Lobbyists) Act 2016 —

(1) What employment restrictions are placed on ministers, parliamentary secretaries and senior public servants upon their resignation from executive government?

(2) What is the foundation of this restriction or these restrictions in statute or otherwise?

(3) How does the management of post-government employment options for ex-senior executive decision-makers differ from arrangements in other Australian jurisdictions?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) Outside of the Integrity (Lobbyists) Act 2016, no employment restrictions exist. Former ministers, parliamentary secretaries and senior public servants can apply for jobs as they see fit.

(2) Not applicable.

(3) The Public Sector Commission does not hold this information.
