Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 794 asked in the Legislative Council on 8 August 2019 by Hon Donna Faragher

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

SCHOOL CURRICULUM AND STANDARDS AUTHORITY — AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION

794. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the Minister for Education and Training:

I refer to the review by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority of two senior secondary courses relating to agricultural education.

(1) When did the review commence?

(2) Will the minister list the stakeholders who have already been consulted as part of the review?

(3) In addition to the stakeholders referred to in (2), is it anticipated that further consultation will be undertaken; and, if so, will the minister provide a list of the additional stakeholders who will be consulted?

(4) When is the review expected to be completed and will it be made public?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) The School Curriculum and Standards Authority commenced a review of the years 11 and 12 animal production systems ATAR and the years 11 and 12 plant production systems ATAR at the beginning of 2019.

(2) As part of its normal syllabus review process, the authority's board has sought feedback from its animal and plant production curriculum advisory committee. On 1 August 2019, the authority published a general invitation for stakeholders to provide feedback on the years 11 and 12 animal production systems ATAR and the years 11 and 12 plant production systems ATAR syllabuses via a survey published on its website. I think the word used should be ''syllabi''. I will take that up with SCSA!

(3) The authority's board will consider the feedback received through these consultation processes. This feedback will inform the board whether any amendments to the current syllabi will be required; and, if so, the board will determine what further consultation will take place.

(4) The review is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 and feedback from the consultation process will be published.
