Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 69 asked in the Legislative Council on 18 May 2017 by Hon Alyssa Hayden

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

TOURISM — KINGS PARK SEGWAY TOURS
      69. Hon ALYSSA HAYDEN to the Minister for Environment:
My question is without notice but some discussion has been held behind the Chair. I thank the minister for indulging and providing an answer which I hope will be a positive one.
I refer to an outstanding matter that I have not been able to finalise before leaving this place and that I raised during my valedictory speech yesterday. Given the minister's comments during question time yesterday and his desire to open up national parks to the people of Western Australia, will the minister take up my last plea to this place to inject commonsense into the bureaucracy of government by working with the Minister for Transport and the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority to enable the growth of tourism within our capital city and to support dynamic tourism operators by delivering an improved designated segway pathway through Kings Park?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the member for the question and acknowledge her work with and for the tourism sector over the past four years. I am committed to ensuring that WA parks are open for people, so I am very happy to meet with the segway tours proprietors and work with them to find a way to get approval for them to operate in Kings Park and Botanic Garden.
