Question Without Notice No. 1 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 March 2018 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME — TRANSITION
      1. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Minister for Disability Services:
I refer the minister to the financial support provided to the disability sectors by the state governments in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory to transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Will the Western Australian government provide any financial support to the disability sector in this state to assist the sector in its transition to the NDIS; and, if not, why not?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the Leader of the Opposition for the question, for his ongoing interest in the NDIS and for making sure that it delivers to people with disability in this state. It is a very good question. I have met with the sector over the past few weeks and I had a good, decent roundtable discussion with it about the challenges that we face moving forward as part of the national scheme. I also had a very good meeting with the new Minister for Social Services, Minister Dan Tehan, last week and, again, we reaffirmed our commitment to work together to make sure that the NDIS delivers for people with disability in this state. In relation to further funding, unfortunately the Leader of the Opposition will have to wait until the budget.
