WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL
REGULATION — WASTE REFORM
321. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the
Minister for Environment:
I am lucky today, President.
I refer to the Department of Water
and Environmental Regulation's reform work undertaken since the release
of the Closing the loop: Waste reforms for a circular economy.
(1) How close is the department to
completing its reform work?
(2) Has the minister received a briefing
on this work?
(3) Does the minister anticipate being able to deliver
on this reform work through legislative and/or regulatory amendments
before the end of this calendar year?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The
Department of Water and Environmental Regulation is preparing a decision and
regulatory impact statement following the completion of public consultation.
Following the publication of the statement, drafting instructions will need to
be prepared.
(2) Yes.
(3) The drafting
and introduction of bills is a decision for cabinet.
