Question Without Notice No. 740 asked in the Legislative Council on 1 November 2017 by Hon Jacqui Boydell

Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Answered on 1 November 2017

LOCAL PROJECTS, LOCAL JOBS PROGRAM
      740. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the Minister for Regional Development:
I refer to the government's Local Projects, Local Jobs program.
(1) Prior to funding being acquitted, was any analysis on local job creation undertaken for these projects?
(2) If yes to (1), will the minister table that information?
      (3) Given the title of the program, how is the government ensuring that these projects have created local jobs?
      (4) What reporting requirements do project proponents have to government to ensure that tenders go to local suppliers?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
(1)–(4) Local Projects, Local Jobs are one-off grants to support community organisations, schools, sporting organisations and volunteer groups to enhance their facilities, equipment and programs. As many of these grants are for small local capital projects, the government expects that much of the work will be done by local providers when appropriate. The regional development commissions are delivering all the regional grants under the Local Projects, Local Jobs program subject to due diligence and in accordance with relevant government processes.
