Question On Notice No. 3012 asked in the Legislative Council on 23 June 2020 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Question Directed to the: Minister for Education and Training
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to question on notice 2517, regarding "Major maintenance blitz: New job-creating school package unveiled", and the $99,900,000 allocated for 2019-20, and I ask:
(a) how much has been spent by education region;
(b) what percentage was allocated to local contractors in each education region; and
(c) how many jobs were created in each region?

Answered on 8 September 2020

The McGowan Government’s $200 million School Maintenance Blitz program has provided funding to every public school in Western Australia for high priority maintenance, upgrades or refurbishments.

Every school has been allocated a share in $35 million for school led projects. Schools have been able to acquit this funding using the McGowan Government’s Direct to Market framework, which allows schools to engage local contactors directly. Ninety-eight percent of the contracts awarded to-date have been to Western Australian based businesses. The vast majority of the regional works to-date have been procured by the Department of Finance through its regional offices using its regionally focused ‘service alliance’ framework, which comprises a large network of local suppliers who are capable of undertaking low-value works. The remaining $165 million has been allocated to schools for targeted maintenance works, upgrades and refurbishments.

The Maintenance Blitz funding continues to be rolled out in schools across Western Australia.
