COMMUNITIES —
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS
418. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Child Protection:
I
refer to the minister's answer to question without notice 256 asked on
19 March 2020, which stated that eight additional full-time temporary
positions had been added to the working with children check screening unit
until 30 June 2020.
(1) How many of these positions
were extended beyond this date?
(2) As of 30 June
2021, how many Department of Communities employees were working with children?
(3) Further to (2), how many do not
have a current working with children check?
(4) How many family or foster
carers do not have a current working with children check?
(5) Further to (4), how many
currently have children in their care?
Hon
SAMANTHA ROWE replied:
I thank the member for some notice
of the question. I provide the following answer on behalf of the Minister for
Child Protection.
(1) Of the eight
temporary positions, one position in the working with children screening unit
was extended to 1 December 2020.
(2) There were 3 177
Department of Communities employees in child-related work positions as defined
in section 6 of the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004.
(3) None.
(4) On 30 June
2021, there were 90 family carers and 76 foster carers who did not have current
working with children checks.
(5) Of these, a total of three family carers and one
foster carer had children in their care. All are now compliant.
