Answered on 18 September 2018

WELLINGTON DAM — WATERSKIING

836. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to notice MA401 published in the Government Gazette on 14 September 2018.

(1) Will Wellington Dam be closed for waterskiing as a result of this notice?

(2) If yes to (1), why has this decision been made?

(3) Who was consulted as part of this decision?

(4) If no to (1), what is the impact of this decision and why was this decision made?

Hon ALANNA CLOHESY replied:

On behalf of the minister representing the Minister for Transport, I am advised of the following.

(1) No. It has no impact on the waterskiing area.

(2) Not applicable.

(3) The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and the Shire of Collie.

(4) The decision was made to enhance recreational activities on Wellington Dam by allowing electrically powered vessels to access the water as well as state government–owned vessels to undertake mandatory works. The Government Gazette alters the existing closed waters motorised vessel area, which was originally gazetted in 2014, as part of a state government election commitment to enhance recreational activities on Wellington Dam.
