CASHLESS DEBIT CARD TRIAL — BROOME
751. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Community Services:
I refer to a recent crisis meeting
that took place between the key stakeholders in Broome regarding the persistent
alcohol abuse and antisocial behaviour present in the town.
(1) Will the
state government support a bid by the Shire of Broome to the federal government
to declare Broome a cashless welfare card trial site?
(2) Does the
state government concede that its own efforts to curb alcohol abuse in the
Kimberley are failing?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Neither the
Department of Communities nor the minister has received a request from the
Shire of Broome to support a trial of the cashless debit card.
(2) That question
contravenes standing order 105(1)(b) in that it seeks an opinion.
