BIOSECURITY AND AGRICULTURE MANAGEMENT ACT — REVIEW
141. Hon
COLIN de GRUSSA to the Minister for Agriculture and Food:
I refer to the minister's
answer to question without notice 51 asked by me on 6 May 2021.
(1) How many
members will the minister appoint to the review panel referred to in the answer
to question without notice 51?
(2) What
experience or qualifications will determine eligibility for membership of the
panel and how will they be appointed?
(3) Will the minister ensure relevant agricultural
industries, people with experience and recognised biosecurity groups are
represented on the panel?
(4) Will the
minister please table an updated time line for —
(a) the
establishment of the panel; and
(b) the
commencement of the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act review?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the
question.
(1)–(4) I
have explained to the member in the past that the work of the review has
commenced. Although the panel has not yet been appointed, I am looking at
appointing somewhere between four and six people. I expect to have the panel
established by the end of July this year. Of course, I am looking at a panel
with a diversity of experience and will make sure there are people with
relevant agriculture industry experience and people who have experience with
recognised biosecurity groups. Of course, if the member has any suggestions, I am
happy to entertain them.
