DOORS WIDE OPEN — FUNDING
697. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the Minister for Regional
Development:
I refer to the Bunbury-based drug
and alcohol support service Doors Wide Open, which is facing a critical funding
shortfall.
(1) Is the
government aware of media reports stating that Doors Wide Open is facing the
prospect of having to close its doors due to lack of funds?
(2) What past funding has the
government provided to Doors Wide Open?
(3) Can the minister detail what financial support the
government will provide to Doors Wide Open in the future?
(4) Will the minister commit to
ensuring that this invaluable community service will continue to operate?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
(1) Yes.
(2) The McGowan
government provided $100 000 in 2017 through the Local Projects, Local Jobs
program to contribute to the cost of
employing a coordinator to establish a self-sustaining social enterprise model
for the service; $83 295 in July 2019 to fund staff salaries; $200 000
in January 2020 to fund the employment of new and existing staff salaries; and
$10 000 in March 2021 to assist with the completion of an internal review of
policies and procedures required to achieve the critical Alcohol and other Drug
and Human Services Standard accreditation. This is still a work in progress.
(3)–(4) Doors
Wide Open has not made a direct request for additional funding assistance
through the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development or the
South West Development Commission.
