Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 42 asked in the Legislative Council on 12 February 2020 by Hon Dr Steve Thomas

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

COLLIE FUTURES FUND

42. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Minister for Regional Development:

I refer to the $20 million Collie Futures fund.

(1) What is the balance of unallocated or uncommitted moneys remaining in the fund?

(2) What projects have received funding from the fund, and to what value each?

(3) What new full-time, part-time and casual positions have been created within each project funded in (2)?

(4) How does the government measure and quantify new jobs created from expenditure of the fund?

(5) Will the minister table evidentiary data quantifying the number of new jobs expected to be created in Collie as a result of that expenditure?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question.

(1) The $20 million Collie Futures fund is in two parts. The first part is the $18 million Collie Futures industry development fund, and of that, the projects that have received funding to date come to the value of $14 223 818. Of the $2 million Collie Futures small grants program, so far $1 016 450 has been committed. There are several projects under consideration at the moment.

(2)–(3) See table attached.

[See paper 3597.]

(4) Estimates of the number of new jobs to be created are derived from each proponent's project application or business case. Job creation figures are also measured and quantified via data provided by the proponent in their progress reports or acquittals submitted as a requirement of funding assistance agreements.

(5) As all the projects funded to date are still in the early stages of development, exact employment numbers will only be known closer to project completion. Business cases form part of the proponents' funding applications and are considered confidential information under the relevant guidelines. Any decision as to whether to table detailed job estimate data at an individual project level would require consultation with proponents. It should be noted that several of the projects are expected to generate further indirect economic and employment benefits for Collie.
